- 2026. Robert B. Textor and Family Prize for Excellence in Anticipatory Anthropology from the American Anthropological Association to encourage and reward excellent contributions in the use of anthropological perspectives, theories, models and methods in an anticipatory mode that help make informed policy choices.
- 2026. Solon T. Kimball Award for Public and Applied Anthropology, from the American Anthropological Association for “disciplinary path-breakers.” ($1,000 prize, donated to partners in Guatemala)
- 2022. Community Outcomes and Impact Award, International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement.
- 2022. Teaching Award: College of Letters and Science, Division of Humanities, Arts, and Cultural Studies.
- 2020. UC Davis Sustainability Champion, Faculty Award.
- 2018. Sierra Club Northern California's "Best Grassroots Activist," Motherlode chapter.
- 2017-18. One of 13 faculty selected nationally for the Mellon "New Directions Fellowship" for my project, “Toxic Trespass.”
- 2005.“Unsung Hero” award from the UC-Berkeley Chancellor’s Office for having gone beyond the call of duty to “transform student lives.” One of 200 people selected among 4,000 staff, faculty, and TAs nominated.
- 2001. Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award. Anthropology.
